Stretta

Stretta is an endoscopic procedure for the treatment of gastric reflux, or gastrointestinal reflux disease (GERD). It works by delivering radiofrequency energy in the form of electromagnetic waves emitted from a catheter that sits inside the lower esophageal sphincter. The waves heat the sphincter, causing it to swell and stiffen. The tighter sphincter leads to a decrease in gastric reflux symptoms. Stretta is a great option for those suffering from gastric reflux and who would rather not be treated surgically. Stretta is an out-patient procedure done under general anesthesia. Patients require some 2-3 days of convalescence afterwards.

For a more reliable method of treating GERD, patients may be interested in a Nissen Fundoplication.
